    THE HONEST ANSWER

    No credit check car leasing

You have probably found a few companies promising it. Here is what is actually going on, why a credit check is usually in your favour rather than against it, and what we do instead.

    The short answer

Companies advertise no credit check car leasing in the UK. What almost none of them mean is that nobody will look at anything before handing you a car.

If you are searching this phrase, you probably do not really want a company that skips the checks. What you want is to stop being turned down by a computer for something that happened three years ago. That is a different problem, and it has a proper solution.

Why the phrase exists at all

Because it works. It is the one thing a person who has been declined four times wants to hear, so it gets used as a headline whether or not it describes the product underneath.

Look at the search results for it and you will find companies leading with "100% guaranteed acceptance" and "we do not credit score on this contract". Those are attention-grabbing claims aimed at people who have run out of options, which is exactly when nobody reads the small print.

    What is usually happening underneath

When a company advertises leasing with no credit check, one of three things is normally true.

They are checking, but describing it loosely. Plenty of firms run a soft search first, call that "no credit check", and then run a full search once you are further into the process. The check has not gone away. It has moved to a point where you are already invested.

The agreement is structured to sit outside the normal rules. A hire agreement to a private individual that can last more than three months is a regulated consumer hire agreement under UK law. Some very short or rolling arrangements are deliberately built to fall outside that, which changes what protections you get. A rolling monthly deal with no credit check is not the same product as a three year lease, even if the advert makes them look alike.

They genuinely are not checking, and the risk is in the price. This is the honest version of the offer, and it is worth understanding. If a company hands over a fifteen thousand pound car without looking at whether you can pay for it, that risk does not disappear. It is priced in. You will pay more each month, or more up front, or both.

None of that makes those companies villains. But "no credit check" is a description of their process, not a favour they are doing you.

Why you probably want the check

This is the part nobody says out loud.

A credit check is not only there to protect the company. It is the step that stops you being handed a commitment that does not fit your life.

If you are in an IVA, your arrangement shows on a credit search. Any company that looks will see it, and will not set up an agreement without your Insolvency Practitioner's consent. A company that does not look will not see it, will not ask, and you could end up in breach of your arrangement without knowing you had done anything wrong.

The same goes for existing commitments. A proper look at your circumstances is how somebody notices that the payment would leave you short before you have signed for three years of it.

If a company tells you it will not check your credit, that is not generosity. It is them not looking.

    What we do instead

We do check. What we do differently is the order, and it is the order that matters to you.

Your bank statements come first. You send three months of statements and a copy of your driving licence. Our lending partner's underwriter reads them himself and works out whether the payments would sit comfortably alongside everything else that goes out of your account. No credit check happens at this stage. If the answer is no, you find out with nothing on your credit file.

The credit check comes second, and only if the first part works. It is a full search, and it will be recorded on your file. We tell you before it happens. Its job is to see what went wrong and whether you have dealt with it, not to produce a pass mark.

A person makes the decision. Not a score. That is the actual difference between us and the mainstream companies, and it is a far more useful one than a promise nobody can keep.

    What you will need

Being straight about this is the whole point of the page, so here it is.

The first three months up front. Somewhere between £900 and £1,200 depending on the car. There is no no-deposit option, and no version of this without it. If you have arrived here searching for no credit check and no deposit, we are not going to be able to help.

Income from work. Employed or self-employed, £1,500 a month minimum after tax. Other income counts on top of that, but there has to be earned income there.

Payments up to date right now. Past problems are fine. Current ones are the difficulty.

A full UK driving licence, and an address in mainland England or Wales.

    What it costs

Most cars are between £300 and £400 a month, including VAT and road tax for the three years. Delivery and collection are free. Servicing, tyres, MOT and insurance are yours to arrange, and you will need fully comprehensive cover.

Agreements run for 36 months with 10,000 miles a year. At the end you hand the car back. There is no option to buy it.

    When we cannot help

    • You cannot cover the first three months up front.
    • Your income is from benefits or other sources only, with nothing earned alongside it.
    • You are behind on payments right now, or direct debits are bouncing.
    • You drive more than 12,000 miles a year.
    • You have been declared bankrupt and have not yet been discharged.

    Questions people ask

Companies advertise it. In practice, almost anyone handing over a car worth thousands of pounds wants to know something about who they are giving it to. Where a company genuinely does not check, the risk is usually priced into what you pay, or the agreement is structured differently from a standard three year lease.

    Find out where you stand

Send us three months of bank statements and we will tell you within one working day whether this is likely to work, before any credit check is run. If we cannot help, we will tell you why.
